In this project the functionality of the transient thermal solver for surface and convective heat flux on SimScale platform is validated. The geometry used was a perforated plate as shown in figure below.

Four mesh types were considered; linear and quadratic tetrahedrals and hexahedrals. The hexahedral meshes were created locally and than uploaded to SimScale platform. Whereas, the tetrahedral meshes were created using automatic tetrahedralization on SimScale platform. The quadratic tetrahedral and hexahedral meshes are shown in the figures below.

Transient thermal analysis was performed. The inner rounded surface (highlighted red in figure above) was given a surface heat flux of 1 W/m2. Whereas, the outer rounded surface was given a convection of 1 W/(m2K) at 273.15 K. The results below shows the temperature contour plot at 0.1, 0.6 and 1.2 seconds.
