'Flow over a cylinder' simulation project by vardhan17

This project is to visualize the flow over a cylinder. In this project laminar flow is considered for a transient flow field.
The geometry is imported as .iges file from Solidworks software. Automatic Tetrahedral mesh is done with layer addition for accurate capture of the results.


Topology entity sets are defined, so that it makes easy for the application of boundary conditions. Simulation is run only for 0.5 sec with a time step of 0.0005 to ensure stability in the solution and also to keep track of courant number less than 1 (von karmann vortex stretching will appear if we run for more time). For this project the analysis of Incompressible flow of transient type is used. Solver used here is IcoFoam.
Boundary conditions are

  1. Velocity inlet
  2. Pressure outlet
  3. No slip (wall)

Results here are at time 0.5 sec
