Validation Project : Discrete Phase Model analysis of Gas-Solid Fluidised Bed

This project validates the mixing of particles in a gas-sold fluidised bed via the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) approach with Multiphase Particle-in-Cell method (MPPIC) for collision of particles at laminar conditions. The geometry for this case is a rectangular channel (bed) with inlets at the bottom face and one outlet at the top face. The total size of the geometry/domain is 0.15, 0.015 and 0.45m in x, y and z directions.

The domain was meshed using the opensource ‘blockMesh’ tool with 30 cells in X and 45 cells in Z-direction and is shown in the figure below.

The simulation analysis the mixing of solid particles by injection of a jet (bubble) at fluidised conditions in the bed. Two cases were analysed with different number of particles, case (b) with 30,000 and case © with 57,000 particles.

The shown post processing (on Paraview) gives the mixing distribution of particles and evolution of the bubble over time.
