Hi,

What is the difference static, dynamic and transient analysis. Whether anyone knows how to analysis the breaking of nonlinear material.

Hi @Adisa

The difference lies basically in the way inertial loads are treated in the analysis, named as follows in the SimScale platform:

- **Static:** inertial loads are ignored. This is valid when the loads (and deformations) are applied slowly, so results are time independent.
- **Dynamic:** (aka transient) inertial loads are taken into account. This is the more general case of fast loads and rigid body motions, with results depending on time.
- **Harmonic:** inertial loads are taken into account but external loads are assumed to be sinusoidal. As a consequence, resulting stresses and deformations are also sinusoidal. Results are frequency dependent.

The braking of a non-linear material can be analysed in a non-linear static or dynamic analysis, considering the factors discussed above. Currently the SimScale platform doesn’t include crack propagation analysis, but with the current functionality you can implement the material behavior and predict when the breaking occurs, just not the development of the fracture.

Ggiraldo,
Thanks you.

The prediction of the breaking, what it implies?
Whether when on the construction appear max stress (the ultimate) or the strain at breaking.

Hi @Adisa,

Actually both occur at the same time, so you can use both criteria.
