I need help on preparing the model, I am not sure if it needs to be solid or hollow with the ducting.

Hi there, have you considered using the standard meshing algorithm instead? It is reliable, and here you can see the results without any refinements (or flow volume extraction for your case):

It was finished in 2 minutes. Of course you can increase the fineness level and even add some refinements in critical areas, especially if you create a new simulation and divergence appears.
