'Ball-valve-flow-analysis' simulation project by dheiny


I created a new simulation project called 'Ball-valve-flow-analysis':

A turbulent flow simulation of a ball valve is demonstrated in this project.

The flow domain has been extracted from the actual valve CAD model and uploaded to SimScale.

The automatic hex-dominant mesh operation for internal flow was used to create the mesh. The resulting mesh consists of around 1.5 million cells.

The simulation was set up using the steady-state, incompressible flow simulation type applying a k-epsilon turbulence model. A velocity-inlet at the inlet patch and a pressure-outlet boundary condition at the outlet patch was used. The simulation took around 45 minutes on an 8 core machine.
