'Aerodynamics of a race bobsled' simulation project by Milad_Mafi


I created a new simulation project called 'Aerodynamics of a race bobsled':

This project shows how to simulate the airflow around a bob sled.

The CAD model is courtesy of GrabCAD member keith. The model was uploaded as a STEP file to the SimScale Platform and meshed using the snappyHexMesh operation on SimScale. It is a quite coarse mesh with around 3.000.000 cells for demonstration purposes but it utilizes all refinement options of the snappyHexMesh operation: feature-, surface-, volume- and boundary layer-refined.

The simulation has been set up using the incompressible fluid flow analysis type. As a turbulence model, k-Omega-SST has been chosen. The initial and boundary conditions has been chosen according to a classical external aerodynamics setup. The analysis itself was carried out on a 32-core machine in around 30 minutes. The result image was created locally with ParaView as the post-processing environment.
