We’re inviting 3D printing professionals and enthusiasts from all over the world to join the SimScale 3D Printer Workshop starting February 18, 2016. Completely free, the workshop focuses on teaching participants how to use the SimScale engineering simulation platform to develop and improve the design of 3D printers.
Throughout the three weekly online sessions, you will learn the fundamentals of engineering simulation/CAE and will expand your knowledge by improving the design of the RepRap 3D printer.
In addition, every session comes with optional homework assignments. If you complete and submit all three homework assignments, you will qualify for a free SimScale Professional Training (value of €500) and a certificate of participation.
Does this sound good? Wait, there’s more! When you join the workshop, you also get the chance to win a working prototype of a 3D printer with your design modifications.
SimScale 3D Printer Workshop’s Schedule
Session 1 – 02/18/2016: Optimizing the Heat Distribution of the Extruder
The first session will introduce you to thermal simulations. In addition to a brief introduction to SimScale and engineering simulation/CAE in general, workshop participants will create a simulation of the heat distribution within the extruder from scratch and make a design optimization based on the results of the analysis.
Session 2 – 02/25/2016: Reducing the Vibrations of the Frame Using Modal Simulations
The second session will introduce workshop participants to solid mechanics analyses. Participants will learn about the fundamentals of machine dynamics and create a modal simulation to identify eigenfrequencies and the associated modal displacements of the frame.
Session 3 – 03/03/2016: Optimizing of the Cooling Airflow Through the Printer
The last session of the SimScale 3D Printer Workshop covers the role of cooling and thermal management. In addition to learning about the fundamentals of convectional heat transfer and fluid dynamics, you will set up a fluid flow simulation to optimize the operating mode of the fan.
What Do I Need to Know to Participate in the 3D Printer Workshop?
Enthusiasm and desire to learn. We don’t need you to have any prior knowledge or experience with engineering simulation. Not only we will teach you everything you need to know in the workshop, but all participants will also get free access to SimScale, including all simulation features.
Update: This workshop has ended, but you can still watch the recordings here.
